Southwest Texas Junior College
Financial Aid Department
General Information: Consistent with the federal philosophy that
formed the foundation of student financial aid programs, SWTJC believes
that the purpose of the financial aid operation is to provide the necessary
financial resources to eligible students who would otherwise be unable
to attend college because of cost constraints.
Types of Financial Aid: SWTJC offers several types of financial
aid (listed below). These include scholarships, grants, student employment
and student loans or a combination of these programs depending on the student's
documented financial need. Applicants are automatically given consideration
for all types of aid with the exception of scholarships. Preference must
be indicated on the financial aid application (FAFSA). Scholarships require
a separate application. They are based on need as well as achievement,
and have a specific deadline date.
General Application Procedures:
-
SWTJC financial aid office or high school counseling offices provide applicants
with a Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
.
-
Applicant/family completes and submits applications to designated processor.
-
Processor receives and analyzes application, sends applicant results via
Student Aid Report (SAR).
-
Unless otherwise instructed by the institution, the applicant submits SAR
to the institution and awaits response.
-
Once file is complete, institution informs applicant of eligibility via
a Financial Aid Notification Letter.
Deadlines: While no institutional deadline for submission of SAR
exists, priority in awarding certain types of aid is given to applicants
who complete the application process early in the award year. March through
May are considered ideal months for fall semester awarding.
