Article I: Name
Section 1: The name of this organization shall be known as the SOUTHWEST TEXAS JUNIOR COLLEGE STUDENT AMBASSADORS.
Section 2: Southwest Texas Junior College Student Ambassadors are student volunteers who work towards the advancement and representation of SWTJC in all its facets. Through working on a request basis with various departments, participating in community service projects, conducting tours of the campus, and working towards the recruitment and retention of students. The SWTJC Student Ambassadors will maintain a direct relationship with the college and always have as its purpose the betterment of Southwest Texas Junior College in every way.
Section 3: All meetings of the Southwest Texas Junior College Student Ambassadors, whether general or committee, shall require a quorum be present before a meeting can be called to order. A quorum shall be defined as a majority of active members for a general meeting or a majority of the committee. In the case that emergency business must be discussed and a quorum is not present a meeting whether general or committee may take place provided the majority of active members present vote in favor of it.
Article II: Membership
Section 1: Interested students may apply for membership by obtaining an application from the Student Ambassador Coordinator. The membership committee will decide when and for how long applicants may be taken.
Section 2: To be eligible for membership, a candidate must meet the requirements for active membership as outlined in Article III, Section 2 of the Bylaws. No candidate shall be refused membership in the Student Ambassadors on the basis of gender, racial, or ethnic background, religion, financial standing, age, or handicap.
Section 3: The Southwest Texas Junior College Student Ambassadors may consist of active members, inactive members, and honorary members as outlined in Article III of the By-laws.
Article III: Officers
Section 1: There will be an election of officers once during the fall and spring semesters. Elected officers include President, Vice-President for Campus Relations, Vice-President for Financial Affairs, Secretary, Parliamentarian, and Historian. Nominations for these positions will be held at least one week prior to elections. A meeting between outgoing and incoming officers must take place at least three weeks prior to the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
Section 2: Elected officers must fulfill the duties outlined in Article II, Section 3 of the Bylaws.
Article IV: Committees
Section 1: Standing committees shall be formed during the first mandatory meeting of the academic year and shall meet after the scheduled general meeting.
There shall be a standing committee known as the Executive Committee responsible for the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Student Ambassadors and all responsibilities granted by this Constitution and Bylaws. This committee will consist all current officers and sponsors. The President shall chair this committee. At the first and last committee meetings of the academic year, the Executive committee shall put together a state of the Ambassadors report, in which the overall state of the organization, progress made, problems existing and possible solutions will be addressed. This report shall be delivered to all members at a general meeting either orally, on paper or both.
There shall be a standing committee known as the Membership Committee responsible for the standards of membership and all responsibilities granted by this Constitution and Bylaws. This committee will consist of the President and active members. The President shall chair this committee.
There shall be a standing committee known as the Public Relations Committee responsible for the public image of the Student Ambassadors and thus the Southwest Texas Junior College itself as well as all responsibilities granted by this Constitution and Bylaws. This committee will consist of the Vice President of Campus Relations and active members. The V. P. for Campus Relations shall chair this committee.
There shall be a standing committee known as the Fund Raising Committee responsible for the fund raising and sponsorship efforts of the Student Ambassadors and all responsibilities granted by this Constitution and Bylaws. This committee shall consist of V. P. for Financial Affairs and active members. The V. P. for Financial Affairs shall chair this committee.
There shall be a standing committee known as the Historian Committee responsible for the documentation of all Student Ambassadors functions, events, and activities through pictures, audio, video, web-site and other media. This committee shall consist of the Historian and active members. The Historian shall chair this committee.
Article V: Responsibilities
Section 1: Each member must complete a minimum number of 20 ambassador hours per semester. Failure to meet the minimum number of hours will result in a member being considered an inactive member. Active member status may be regained by completing the minimum number of hours the following semester (or month). If active membership is not regained in the semester (or month) after it is taken away, the Membership Committee will review total membership with the possibility of termination.
Section 2: It is the responsibility of the coordinator to appraise members of the responsibilities and training requirements of each activity for which the students volunteer.
Section 3: Members must fulfill the responsibilities and training requirements for all events requiring special training or instruction.
Section 4: It is the responsibility of each member and officer to attend all scheduled meetings. Meetings shall be held at least twice a month.
Article VI: Amendments and Revisions
Section 1: The existing Constitution and/or Bylaws of the Southwest Texas Junior College Student Ambassadors may be reviewed and revised as needed by the Coordinators and executive members at the end of each spring semester at that time any amendments or revision of rules will be done.
Section 2: This Constitution and Bylaws were last reviewed and revised during the spring semester of the Eleventh of April in the year Two-thousand and Two.
